Lvna Website: New Look, Newest Technology

One week ago we launched a new look for our website, the design and implementation of which was done in-house. In addition to this refreshed look, we've made additional changes behind the scenes to make your experience using it more enjoyable. We want to tell you about some of them.

1. New Domain

Besides lvnacapital.com, we can now be found at lvna.capital too. Choose your favorite. And as the world has run out of IPv4 address space, we want to be good netizens and support the migration to IPv6. If you're lucky enough to have an ISP that supports it, we'll serve you there. For those not so lucky, IPv4 still works as expected.

2. Updated Layout Is Much Faster

Performance of devices on mobile networks was our #1 engineering priority. Consequently ALL of the assets, such as images, are minimized in size even before compression. Speaking of which, our servers compress everything for you as much as possible before sending it over the network. In addition, we've moved a most of these assets into a content delivery network (CDN) so that they are served fast from a location near you and they are cached for longer on your device. Consequently, most images will be saved locally and not needed to be downloaded on the next visit (unless we change them :).

To maintain a consistent look and behavior across the various pages, we are using a heavily customized UI framework. This helps us standardize across various display sizes and browser vendors.

Another neat optimization is that the site is server-side-rendered (SSR). It means our servers do most of the work, thus we can achieve superior experiences, in particular, on low-power devices. And we've upgraded our servers so that we're never wanting for performance. To explain how this works, the server prefetches the initial data for you and builds pages dynamically drastically reducing the number of round trips required to view the site. It helps that we've made the move to HTTP/2 (most pages will be HTTP/1.1) to lower latency and reduce bandwidth consumption. Also our site is easily indexable by search engines and social media platforms.

For an even snappier initial load, images and scripts that are not needed for it, are fetched on demand as you scroll.

Here is what the Lighhouse tool thinks about our site:

3. The More the Merrier

At Lvna we believe that crypto is for all. We want people of all different abilities and disabilities to be able to gather information about it from our site. So we've put in additional effort to make the content easily readable, navigable without using a mouse or touch (i.e. keyboard), whose flow makes it screen-reader friendly. We follow and enforce WCAG 2.1 Level AAA across the entire code base.

While we are proud of the efforts that we have completed, we view accessibility as an important ongoing effort and are seeking solutions to improve the accessibility of our site. If you have difficulty using or accessing any element of this website or if you have any feedback, please feel free to contact us and we will work with you to make all reasonable efforts to correct the issue and assist with immediate needs.

4. Quality Developer Experience (DX)

Just like we want you to enjoy using our site, we want to enjoy working on it ourselves. So we follow CI/CD practices, keep strict code format and syntax, follow the HTML5 and CSS3 standards, and endeavor to test all aspects ("if you didn't test it, it doesn't work!"). Although our code base is not large, these methods and a bit of automation, allow us get through updates and changes quickly. In this way, we can focus our time on bringing value beyond this small site to our investments and investors.

5. We Have a Blog

You are reading it! We will use this area to express our thoughts and bring you the latest happenings. To stay up-to-date, you can use the Atom feed on your favorite newsreader.

6. Getting Out There

We've updated all of our apps on GitHub and we have a Press section to highlight our forays in the media. We will also be highlighting our public technical contributions to blockchain projects and their significance in this space.

7. Near Future

We're in the process of finishing our dashboard for Limited Partners (LPs). Critically, we have not forgotten about you. In the next couple of months, our you will gain exclusive access to an interactive dashboard, whose primary goals are to become be a secure medium for sharing additional detail about the fund and its investments and provide a "one-stop shop" for our LPs to consume relevant information about the digital asset markets. Hit us up to get beta access.

8. Improved Security

A neat side effect from SSR, if you're very security conscious like ourselves, is that almost all of the pages on the site are functional with JavaScript disabled, including all of the fancy moving elements. So you don't have to execute any scripts if you don't want to and still enjoy a complete experience. And also, unless you're logged in or send us a note, we discard any and all session data and cookies.

In addition, we've modernized and hardened our security practices. We only use HTTPS to serve the site and its data. We've updated our cryptographic protocols to TLSv1.3 (you can still use TLSv1.2). For higher security, our certificates for RSA are 4096-bits minimum or, if your device has hardware-accelerated AES, using Elliptic Curve Cryptography--like all of our favorite crypto projects. All of the cipher suites are forward secret and authenticated to encrypt our data exchange when you visit with us.

9. Bits and Pieces

Whoever you are, we have something for you:

  • If you are a search engine crawler, find our robots.txt and sitemap.xml.
  • If you are not, check out our humans.txt.
  • If you are a newsreader, add atom to your feed.
  • And if you are a security researcher, see our security.txt.
  • If you want to send us an encrypted e-mail our PGP key is in publickey.txt.
  • If you are on Chrome, our manifest.json will allow you to install our website as an app and use it offline.
  • If you are on Safari, you can add us to your home screen.
  • If you are on Android, you can also add us to your home screen.
  • If you are on Edge, you can add us to your Start Menu or Taskbar.

10. Easter Eggs

No good engineering project can be without some hidden gems:

11. Taking It Up to 11

We hope you like it and get a good feel of what we are all about here at Lvna. As ever, we are at your service, for comments, questions, and concerns.

A final note: as adoption of digital assets continues to take place around the world and core developers ship cutting-edge upgrades to blockchain software, we are confident that the market's situation will dramatically improve. Rest assured that, in spite of the turbulent months we've been through, we continue to be fully committed to making our fund wildly successful in the long-term, which we hope will translate into extraordinary returns for you.
